WHY IT MATTERS
As part of the ongoing BUR Noise Study, at this Citizen's Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting and final Open House / Public Hearing (details to be confirmed), the Study team will present the Final Noise Recommendations that will be submitted to BUR for approval and then to the FAA for consideration and implementation.
While this BUR Noise Study could provide relief, the meetings so far have shown that strong community support and participation are essential.
The BUR Noise Study is mostly focused on the immediate area around the runways. We were shocked to see the NextGen flight paths with WAYPOINTS that we and the community have been fighting since 2018 -- and which the FAA rejected last year as UNSAFE -- presented for discussion at the last meeting. Thanks to many people making public comments, the facilitator said that these will not be considered.
It is exhausting, frustrating, and inconvenient, but no relief will be possible if the community does not show up and speak on Thursday 6/4.
*We recognize coming to a meeting at 4 p.m. is difficult. We and the CAC members have asked repeatedly for remote options so that more people can participate, but regrettably each meeting continues to be in-person only.
LAWSUIT UPDATE
Our lawsuit against the FAA based on their Environmental Assessment (EA) is active and in progress.
We are preparing to file our Opening Brief with the Court.
Following a response brief from FAA and our reply, there will be oral argument.
We will send further updates, including when oral argument is scheduled.
