WHY IT MATTERS
The Citizen's Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting agenda is HERE.Â
As part of the ongoing BUR Noise Study, the Study team will present the proposed Noise Recommendations.
Per the agenda, the Study team has only 1 proposal that could help with NextGen flight path changes through "earlier turns" with "dispersion", but they caution that "the effectiveness of the measure is expected to be limited" and it "cannot be consistently applied."
After nearly a decade of constant, daily impacts ... THIS IS NOT ENOUGH!
We need YOU to come to the meeting on Thursday and make a comment asking for actual, effective, consistent relief.
Please see below for suggested comments.
*We recognize coming to a meeting at 4 p.m. is difficult. We and the CAC members have asked repeatedly for remote options so that more people can participate, but regrettably each meeting continues to be in-person only.Â

[MOST IMPORTANT COMMENTS]
Thank you for the proposed Noise Abatement Measure for Runway 15 Departure Dispersion and Early Turn Opportunities. This will not be an effective solution if the results will be limited and cannot be consistently applied. At the last meeting, you said that you could work within the existing procedures to UNDO THE HARM of the Runway 15 departures that shifted south by several nautical miles. This proposal reflects the spirit of that, but does little to actually help. Please revise this proposal to ensure that you achieve that goal, with consistent application rather than limited and variable. Include at least a preference for early turns directly off the runway as the default, which remains possible through use of BUR's Diverse Vector Areas. UNDO THE HARM!
Â
Based on the Task Force recommendations that led to this Noise Study, the Noise Compatibility Program at BUR is also required to analyze Runway 33 arrivals to limit the use of the Runway 33 wind arrival flight path over the Santa Monica Mountains. The community has requested this repeatedly at prior meetings. The proposed Noise Abatement Measures do not reflect this. Please add this to the proposed Noise Abatement Measures so that the Noise Study achieves this objective.
[OTHER COMMENTSÂ IF YOU HAVE TIME]
Noise Compatibility Program development can include measures for preferential runway use. Please add a proposed Noise Abatement Measure to consider whether a more northerly flow of departures on Runway 33 would provide noise benefits, for at least half of the departure operations. However, ensure Runway 8 arrivals remain possible with northern departures. No additional Runway 33 wind arrivals as a result of this Noise Abatement Measure.
Â
Please add a Noise Abatement Measure proposal regarding Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) or "flying taxis". The FAA is launching a pilot program to commence operations in California beginning this summer. The Noise Study should include a Noise Abatement Measure that flying taxis, which take off and land VERTICALLY, will NOT use the existing Runway 15 southern departure flight paths or Runway 33 wind arrival paths. These areas cannot absorb more impacts.
Â
BUR approved additional Noise Study funding at the last Commissioner Meeting. Please use some of this funding to provide remote listening and participation options.
