LEGAL UPDATE
IT'S OFFICIAL: We have filed a legal challenge of the FAA's environmental review of Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) southern departures.
Though we expected a lawsuit would be necessary once the FAA finalized its Environmental Assessment (EA), we did everything we could to achieve relief before this. We have fought for relief since the FAA moved, condensed, and lowered BUR flight paths beginning in late 2016-early 2017.
We are grateful that the community submitted 1,000 comments on the draft EA noting the various deficiencies with FAA's environmental review. Unfortunately, the FAA minimized these comments as "form letters" and did not address these deficiencies in the final EA.
Our attorney is an aviation expert who has won similar cases against the FAA involving flight path changes. We remain optimistic despite the many years it has taken to reach this point. However, lawsuits against the FAA are difficult to win and we need your continued support.
We will push for long overdue relief and a fair resolution. We advocate for a broad range of neighborhoods and seek an outcome that minimizes noise and pollution impacts for all. We do not believe that any community should be sacrificed like we have been.
We will keep you updated as the case progresses.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
We represent hundreds of thousands of people whose daily lives are negatively impacted by the FAA's flight path changes at BUR, but our email list includes only a small fraction of those affected.
Please send your neighbors our website address at uproarla.org and ask them to sign up for email blasts.
Strong community support is essential to achieve relief.
